Police have arrested Faria Haque Tina, one of the two female students allegedly linked to the murder of university student Zahidul Islam Parvez, from Bashundhara Residential Area in Dhaka early Friday.
Tina, an English department student at University of Scholars, was taken into custody by Banani Police and is expected to be produced in court later today with a five-day remand plea.
Parvez, a student of Prime Asia University, was killed on April 19 following a campus altercation. The dispute reportedly began when Parvez had a verbal clash with students of University of Scholars over mocking two female students. Although the issue was seemingly resolved by the university administration, Parvez was attacked by a group of 30 to 40 individuals near the campus later that evening. He was fatally stabbed and later pronounced dead at Kurmitola General Hospital.
On April 20, Parvez’s cousin Humayun Kabir filed a case at Banani Police Station. Eight named accused, including Mahathi, Meherab, and Abujar Ghaffari from the Law and English departments of the University of Scholars, were mentioned in the FIR, along with 20 to 30 unidentified individuals.
