A farm worker has died after sustaining severe injuries during a US immigration raid at a legal cannabis farm in Ventura County, California, his family confirmed on Saturday.

The incident occurred during a massive crackdown on undocumented migrants ordered by President Donald Trump. Around 200 people were arrested during the operation, with US authorities claiming they also rescued 10 children from possible exploitation and trafficking.

According to the worker’s family, the man—identified as Jaime—fell 30 feet while allegedly being chased by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. A GoFundMe page set up by the family described his injuries as “catastrophic.”

However, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) claimed he was not being pursued and fell from the roof of a greenhouse on his own. DHS said emergency services were called immediately.

The raids triggered large-scale protests. DHS reported that over 500 people tried to disrupt the operation, leading to clashes. Tear gas was used, and some protesters reportedly threw objects at law enforcement.

Four US citizens face charges for resisting or assaulting officers. Authorities are offering a $50,000 reward for the arrest of a suspect accused of firing a gun during the unrest.

Glass House Brands, which operates the farm, said it complies with labor laws and does not employ minors.
