A tragic road accident on the Jessore-Benapole highway claimed the lives of a father and his 10-year-old daughter after their motorcycle was hit by a speeding bus. Enraged locals set the bus on fire following the incident.
The accident occurred on Thursday afternoon in the Puléhat area of Jessore’s outskirts. The deceased were identified as Rubel Hossain (32) from Mujgunni, Khulna, and his daughter Oishi (10). Rubel’s wife Jesmin and younger daughter Tayeba sustained critical injuries.
Eyewitnesses reported that Rubel was returning home with his family from his in-laws’ house in Bahilapota, Sharsha, when the bus struck their motorcycle. Rubel and Oishi were thrown off and crushed under the wheels, while Jesmin and Tayeba were severely injured. The reckless driver also injured a pedestrian while fleeing the scene.
Locals rushed the victims to Jessore General Hospital, where Rubel was declared dead on arrival. Dr. Sujayet Ahmed of the hospital’s emergency department confirmed that Jesmin and Tayeba are in critical condition.
Following the accident, an outraged crowd intercepted the bus, seized it, and later set it ablaze. Police from Kotwali Station arrived to control the situation, and the victims’ bodies have been sent to the morgue, according to Officer-in-Charge Abul Hasan.
