Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed has issued a stern warning against illegal hoarding of essential goods during Ramadan, emphasizing increased market monitoring to prevent unfair practices.

Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, the Finance Adviser, highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring that food supplies reach consumers without being hoarded or hidden. Speaking to the media after a meeting of the Government Purchase Advisory Committee on February 20, he reassured the public that the government would take strict action during Ramadan to prevent such practices.

Dr. Ahmed mentioned the discussions in the meeting, which included matters related to the import of rice and fertilizers, construction of warehouses, and infrastructure projects like roads and bridges. He clarified that the government’s focus is on essential items, with necessary infrastructure projects approved for the country’s needs.

Liberty News’ economic correspondent states that, addressing market concerns, he emphasized that district administrators have been instructed to monitor markets locally to ensure there are no manipulations at the wholesale or retail levels. “With Ramadan approaching, we are increasing our market monitoring,” he said, reiterating the government’s commitment to tackling illegal hoarding and price manipulations.
