A fire broke out at Kuala Lumpur’s Petronas Tower 3 on the morning of 1 November, with images and videos uploaded online showing thick smoke billowing from the top of the building.

Malaysia’s Bernama news outlet said that the fire involved a restaurant in one of the building’s upper floors.

Bernama later reported that the fire had been extinguished by firefighters.

Malaysian daily The New Straits Times, citing Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Mohd Hafizan Hassan, reported that authorities were alerted to the fire at about 6.40am.

They arrived at the scene less than 10 minutes later and extinguished the flames using the building’s internal fire safety systems, including the fire hoses and wet risers system.

No casualties were reported, he said, adding that the fire was brought under control at 7.04am and was completely extinguished by 8.45am.

A restaurant on the 57th floor of the building is being temporarily closed as the cause of the fire is being investigated, he added.

Petronas Tower 3, a 60-storey building also known as Menara Carigali, is located next to the iconic Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur. The building houses office spaces, as well as retail and food and beverage outlets.
