One dead as fire breaks out in Old Dhaka

A fire broke out early Monday morning on the ground floor of a five-storey building on Nazimuddin Road in Old Dhaka, leaving one person dead and six others injured due to smoke inhalation.

The deceased has been identified as Aminuddin, 70, who was declared dead while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

According to the Fire Service and Civil Defence, the fire erupted around 4:10 am. Three units rushed to the spot by 4:12 am, with seven more units joining later. The fire was brought under control by 4:50 am and completely doused by 5:12 am.

The injured — Sakib (20), Musfiq (22), Israt Jahan (36), Isayat (5), and Talha (4) — are currently receiving treatment at the DMCH burn unit. Another victim, Fatema (20), has been admitted to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Confirming the incident, Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police camp, said that a total of seven victims were brought in, one of whom was declared dead by doctors. The remaining six are undergoing treatment.
