A fire erupted at the house of Maherpur district police superintendent at the town’s Court Intersection on Wednesday afternoon.
Police Superintendent Manzur Ahmed Siddiqui said no casualty took place in the incident as he alone lives in the house, and was staying outdoors at the time.
Fire Service and Civil Defence Deputy Assistant Director Sakria Haider said initial estimates suggest the fire erupted from an air conditioner blast. Detailed probe would confirm the actual reason, he said.
Three firefighting units managed to contain the fire after an hour of efforts, he added.
Arson attacks have taken place in multiple places across the country ahead of Awami League’s, a banned political group, “Dhaka Lockdown” programme on Thursday.
After the fire outbreak at Police Superintendent Manzur’s residence, police prevented journalists from photographing the damages inside.
Security has been beefed up at the residence.
