Army personnel recovered firearms and narcotics from the residence of former Awami League lawmaker Rifat Amin during a raid in Satkhira on Saturday (15 June), officials confirmed.

The operation took place around noon at her house in the Munjitpur area of the town. Her younger son, Safayet Sarwar Ruman, who had been living alone at the residence, was detained during the raid.

According to sources, Ruman tried to escape by jumping from the second floor at the start of the operation and sustained a leg injury.

Major Iftekhar Rahman of the Satkhira army camp said the raid was conducted based on a tip-off. A rifle, 300 yaba pills, liquor, and various drug-related items were seized from the premises.

Former MP Rifat Amin is currently in the United States, staying at her elder son’s home, local sources added.
