Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-5) has arrested five accused in the high-profile Mobarak Hossain murder case from the Sugandha Lighthouse area in Cox’s Bazar early Saturday morning.

According to a press release from RAB-5, the arrestees—Alamin (35), Shahidul Islam (25), Shahabur (30), Ripon (25), and Mehedi Hasan alias Batul (22)—are residents of Taripatpur village in Rajshahi’s Durgapur upazila. Law enforcers also recovered four mobile phones and four SIM cards from them.

The murder occurred on April 14 following a village arbitration over a woman’s protest at her lover’s house demanding marriage. The meeting escalated tensions, and Mobarak Hossain, who tried to mediate, was fatally attacked with local weapons. He died later at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

After the incident, the suspects went into hiding. The victim’s wife filed a case with Durgapur Police Station, and RAB began a shadow investigation. Based on intelligence, the accused were located and arrested in a raid.

RAB says operations to apprehend the remaining suspects are ongoing. The process of transferring the detainees to Durgapur Police is underway.
