The Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) nominated five newly elected representatives to the university’s senate during its first executive council meeting on Sunday.

The meeting, presided over by Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor and DUCSU President Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan, was held in the morning at the lounge adjacent to his office, according to a press release.

The five nominated representatives are DUCSU Vice-President Md Abu Shadik Kayem, General Secretary SM Farhad, Assistant General Secretary Mohiuddin Khan, Member Sabikunnahar Tamanna, and Transport Secretary Asif Abdullah.

The meeting focused on enhancing student representation, formulating both short- and long-term work plans, and drafting constructive policies. Newly elected members expressed their commitment to participatory leadership and proactive solutions to student issues.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, VP Shadik Kayem said, “No one lost in this election. We will all work together. There is no personal victory or defeat in DUCSU — this is the will of the martyrs and the victory of the July generation.” He also noted that DUCSU would ensure transparency and accountability through monthly action plans and direct engagement with students.

GS SM Farhad stated that the names of the five senate nominees would be published in the official gazette soon. “We want to serve as true representatives of all students. A comprehensive plan will be prepared and implemented to address their demands and concerns,” he said.

Earlier in the day, the vice-chancellor welcomed the newly elected leaders with floral greetings. Brief speeches were delivered by the DUCSU VP, treasurer, and other elected representatives to mark the beginning of their official duties.

Meanwhile, DUCSU VP Shadik Kayem and executive member Anas Ibne Munir visited a private hospital to check on Sakhawat Sarkar, a student of Muhsin Hall who was admitted to the ICU following a rickshaw accident on 11 September. They prayed for his swift recovery and assured full cooperation regarding his medical treatment.

Separately, the Dhaka University administration issued a strong protest against what it termed “false and misleading” reports published in a national daily concerning the results of the DUCSU and Hall Union elections.

A statement issued by the university’s Public Relations Office clarified that incorrect vote counts had been reported for candidates in Fazlul Haque Muslim Hall and Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall. The administration warned that such attempts to question the transparency and credibility of the electoral process were against the interests of the university community.
