Five held at Maheshpur border

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained five Bangladeshi nationals, including a woman, while they were attempting to illegally cross into India through the Maheshpur border in Jhenaidah.

The detainees, residents of Khulna, Gopalganj, and Sylhet, were apprehended by a patrol team from Baghdanga Border Outpost (BOP) under Maheshpur 58 BGB around 6 PM on Monday.

Lieutenant Colonel Rafiqul Alam, commanding officer of Maheshpur 58 BGB, confirmed the arrests in a press release issued at 10 PM the same day.

According to the release, the arrests were made during a routine operation near the house of Afang Mia in Baghdanga village. The individuals were attempting to cross the border illegally when they were caught.

Liberty News’ local correspondent states that all five detainees have since been handed over to the local police station for further legal action.
