A case was filed on Monday with a Dhaka court against five persons on charges of fraud over allegations of failing to refund ticket money for the concert of Pakistani singer Atif Aslam, despite the cancellation of the programme.

Barrister Ahsan Habib Bhuiyan filed the case application at the court of Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Zakir Hossain on Monday.

Ahsan Habib said the court took cognisance of the application and directed the Detective Branch (DB) of police to investigate the allegations and submit the probe report within the next 15 working days.

The accused in the case are– Kazi Rafsan, co-founder of the concert organising company Main Stage Inc; Briti Sabrina Khan; Chologhuri Limited; Asif Iqbal, managing director of Chologhuri Limited; and Promi Islam, its chairman.

Earlier, a concert was scheduled to take place in Dhaka on 13 December with grand arrangements, where Pakistani singer Atif Aslam, along with popular local band Nemesis, Azam Khan Feeders and several folk artists, was slated to perform on stage.

However, Atif Aslam cancelled the programme in a post on his verified Facebook page on 11 December. He claimed that the organisers had failed to ensure the necessary local permissions, security clearances and logistical support, making it impossible for him to participate in the concert.

Expressing regret to Bangladeshi fans, Atif Aslam also said that holding the event under such circumstances was neither safe nor feasible.
