Advisor to the Ministry of Food and Land, Ali Imam Mojumder, has stated that in preparation for the upcoming Ramadan, 300,000 tons of rice will be distributed under the Food-Friendly Program in March- April, with 150,000 tons allocated each month. Additionally, 50 lac families will receive 15 kilograms of rice at the rate of 30 Taka per kilogram under this program.
He made these comments after the first session related to the Ministry of Food and Land during the second day of the District Commissioner (DC) conference on Monday.
The Advisor mentioned that during Ramadan, a large quantity of food grains will be distributed at very affordable prices, in some cases, for free. He instructed the District Commissioners (DCs) to manage these activities in an orderly manner.
The Food Advisor further mentioned that an additional 100,000 tons of rice will be distributed through the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) in the next two months. Another 100,000 tons will be distributed through the Open Market Sale (OMS) program. Additionally, during Eid, one crore families will receive 10 kilograms of rice for free.
Ali Imam Mojumder stated that these rice distributions will significantly help control market prices. Various authorities will oversee these distribution activities, but the main supervision will be conducted by the District Commissioners. He added that such activities were previously not closely monitored in the Dhaka metropolitan area, specific instructions have been given to the concerned authorities in Dhaka to ensure strict supervision.
He also mentioned that he has had a separate meeting with the Dhaka Division Commissioner will have further meetings. There are 122 sales centers and 70 truck sales in this division, if necessary, he has instructed that they be supervised by magistrates, apart from TCB’s role.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Food & Land and other senior officials from both ministries were present at the event.
