Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain stated on Monday (March 17) that Indian media is spreading false information globally, tarnishing Bangladesh’s image. He urged the nation to remain vigilant about this issue.

Speaking as the chief guest at a workshop and discussion session at the Economic Reporters Forum (ERF) office in Paltan Tower, Dhaka, he further explained that Bangladesh is not in favor of delaying its graduation from the Least Developed Countries (LDC) status. He added that while the issue had been known for some time, businesses had not taken sufficient action. Bangladesh is set to graduate from LDC status by 2026, and there is no room for delay.

Touhid Hossain also acknowledged the current economic challenges in the country, emphasizing the need to increase revenue collection. He highlighted the “embarrassing” tax-to-GDP ratio and stated that efforts would be made to overcome this issue.

Regarding the cotton industry, the advisor stressed the government’s commitment to providing policy support for its development. He assured that within two months, positive decisions would be taken to advance the sector. Cotton would be recognized as an agricultural product, and measures would be implemented to offer low-interest loans to farmers involved in cotton cultivation.

Liberty News’ correspondent states that the workshop was chaired by ERF President Daulat Akter Malar, with ERF General Secretary Abul Kashem moderating the session. Officials from the Cotton Development Board, the National Board of Revenue, and stakeholders from the cotton sector were also present.
