Former Dhaka University VC AAMS Arefin Siddique passes away

Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique, former Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, has passed away. He breathed his last on Thursday night (March 13) while undergoing treatment at BIRDEM Hospital due to a brain stroke and hemorrhage.

According to family sources, Prof. Arefin Siddique was receiving treatment under the supervision of neurosurgeon Prof. Nazrul Islam at Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital. On March 6, he suddenly collapsed while speaking at Dhaka Club in Ramna. He was immediately taken to Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital, where he was placed in the Neuro ICU after initial treatment. Despite medical efforts, he remained on life support for several days before passing away.

Legacy:
Prof. Arefin Siddique, a distinguished academic and media expert, previously served as the Chairman of Dhaka University’s Department of Mass Communication and Journalism. In 2009, he was appointed as the 27th Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, serving until 2017. After completing his tenure, he returned to his department as a professor before retiring from university teaching in June 2020.

Liberty News’ national correspondent states that his passing marks a significant loss for the academic and journalism community in Bangladesh.
