Shah Sarwar Kabir, former MP of Gaibandha-2 and organizational secretary of Gaibandha District Awami League, was arrested by Dinajpur police on Tuesday night from a residence in Eidgah Residential Area.
Dinajpur police apprehended Shah Sarwar Kabir, a former lawmaker and ex-chairman of Gaibandha Sadar Upazila Parishad, around 9 PM on April 15. The arrest was made from the home of his sister, Professor Afroza Parvin Kabir, in Dinajpur town.
Confirming the arrest, Dinajpur Superintendent of Police Marufat Hossain stated that Kabir is a listed accused in two separate cases. Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid and detained him after he had reportedly been in hiding since March 1.
Kabir had previously served as an independent Member of Parliament for Gaibandha-2. His political involvement also includes holding a key position within the Gaibandha District Awami League.
Following the arrest, police reported that arrangements are underway to hand him over to Gaibandha police for further legal proceedings.
