The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) detained former additional inspector general of police (IGP) Md Iqbal Bahar from the capital’s Bailey Road area on Thursday, according to police officials.
DMP Joint Commissioner (DB) Nasirul Islam confirmed the detention, stating, “He is currently in DB custody.” Authorities have not yet revealed whether Bahar’s detention is linked to a specific case or investigation.
Md Iqbal Bahar retired in 2019 after serving as the additional IGP at the Telecommunications and Information Management unit in Rajarbagh. He previously held the position of commissioner of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) before being transferred to Dhaka.
Further details about the reason for his detention are yet to be disclosed by the police.
