A court has sent former State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Dipankar Talukder to jail in the murder case of Jubo Dal leader Shamim. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam issued the order after a hearing on Tuesday.
On that day, the investigating officer of the case and DB Police Sub-Inspector Md. Ferdous Alam presented him in court and applied for a 7-day remand.
SI Ruknozzaman, the general registration officer of Paltan Police Station, said that the hearing on remand and bail was not held due to the lack of original documents in the case. The hearing on remand and bail will be held subject to receipt of the case documents. Later, the court ordered him to be sent to jail.
Liberty News Court correspondent reports that on October 28, 2023, BNP organized a grand rally in Dhaka. In response, the Awami League held a counter-rally on the same day. With police assistance, the rally was attacked with the intent to kill and abduct BNP leaders and activists. During the attack, Youth Party leader Shamim was killed. Following the incident, a case was filed on September 14, 2024, at Paltan Police Station. Dipankar, named as the 641st accused in the case, was arrested on Monday night from Sobhanbagh in Dhaka.
