At least four people were killed and several others injured when a passenger bus veered off the road and plunged into a roadside ditch in Faridpur on Tuesday morning.
The accident occurred around 11:00am near the Zobaida Karim Jute Mill area on the Dhaka-Barishal Highway under the Gerda Union of Faridpur Sadar upazila.
According to SI Hiramon Biswas of Faridpur Kotwali Police Station, the bus was en route to Madaripur from Faridpur when the driver lost control near the Bakhunda area and the vehicle fell into the ditch. Several passengers sustained injuries and were taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
Atiar Rahman, ward master of the hospital, confirmed Liberty News that four of the injured were declared dead upon arrival. “One of the injured is in critical condition,” he added. The identities of the deceased are yet to be confirmed.
