A deadly head-on collision between a truck and a pickup van in Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj claimed four lives and left five others critically injured late Thursday night.

At least four people — two men and two women — were killed when a pickup van collided head-on with a truck at Bakhrnagar on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway around 2:00 AM on Thursday night. The identities of the deceased are yet to be confirmed.

According to Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdullah Al Mamun of Madhabpur Police Station, the pickup was carrying 16 to 17 passengers along with household goods when the accident occurred. “The injured have been admitted to Habiganj Sadar Hospital in critical condition,” he said.

Both vehicles have been seized by the highway police, and the bodies have been taken to Habiganj Sadar Hospital for postmortem. Authorities are working to identify the deceased and determine the cause of the collision.

This tragic incident once again highlights the growing concerns over road safety along the Dhaka-Sylhet corridor, which has seen multiple fatal accidents in recent months.
