The police have arrested the entire gang involved in the public assault of a couple with a machete while they were on their way home in Uttara, the capital. This was confirmed by the Deputy Police Commissioner (DC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s (DMP) Uttara Division, Rownak Jahan, during a press conference at the DMP Media Center on Wednesday.
He stated that the members of a juvenile gang attacked the couple with a sharp weapon in retaliation for protesting against their fast motorcycle driving. All members of the gang have been identified and arrested.
The incident occurred on February 17, around 10:30 PM, when the couple was attacked with a machete by assailants on their way home in Uttara.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Uttara West Police Station, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Mohammad Hafizur Rahman, told Liberty News that the victims, Mehebul Hasan and his wife Ifti, were traveling home on a motorcycle when three individuals on two motorcycles began harassing them. At one point, at an intersection, their motorcycle collided with a rickshaw. A dispute broke out between Hasan and the rickshaw driver. After receiving information, two more individuals arrived with sharp weapons attacked the husband wife, injuring them with random strikes.
