A readymade garment factory workers blocked the road and protested, demanding payment of their wages at Hemayetpur area in Savar upazila on Monday.
The workers took to the Hemayetpur-Singair regional road in Savar’s Tetuljhora union in the morning.
However, they lifted their blockade after receiving assurance from the factory owners.
According to protesting workers, AB Apparels, the factory has not paid the staff their past two months’ salary. As a result, the workers blocked the road and demanded immediate payment of their wages.
Police sources reported that the workers’ protest on the Hemayetpur-Singair road disrupted traffic in the area. To control the situation, Army and Industrial Police officials arrived at the scene.
After discussions, the authorities announced that April’s salary would be paid today and May’s salary and Eid bonus would be paid before Eid.
Confirming the incident, Ashulia Industrial Police-1 Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Mominul Islam Bhuiyan said that the workers took to the road demanding wages in the morning.
Through discussions, they were assured that their salaries would be paid before Eid, and they then moved off the road, said the SP.
