At least 72 Palestinians have been killed in a fresh wave of Israeli airstrikes on the besieged Gaza Strip, with several casualties reported near food distribution centres, according to medical sources and local journalists.

The strikes began early Sunday, June 29, and were concentrated in Gaza City and the northern region. Reports indicate that 47 people were killed in these areas alone.

Muayyad Al-Khalhout, reporting from Gaza for Al Jazeera, described chaotic scenes at Al-Ahli Hospital, where dozens of wounded civilians, including many children, were rushed in. “Patients are lying on the floor. The hospital is overwhelmed and lacks essential medical supplies,” he reported.

In eastern Gaza City, Israeli forces reportedly dropped warning leaflets urging civilians to move south. However, heavy bombardment followed shortly after, significantly increasing the casualty count.

Among the victims were at least five individuals in Rafah who had gathered at a food distribution centre operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). This group, which receives backing from both the United States and Israel, has faced intense criticism over its limited aid operations and the risks posed to civilians near its centres.

According to Gaza’s media office, since GHF began distributing aid in late May, over 580 Palestinians have been killed and more than 4,000 injured near aid points allegedly targeted by Israeli forces.

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to deepen, with growing reports of malnutrition-related deaths among infants and young children.

Calls for international intervention are intensifying as the violence shows no sign of abating and civilian suffering worsens by the day.
