Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader has condemned the proposed national budget for FY2025–26 as a product of “neo-fascist ideology,” warning it will worsen poverty, unemployment, and inequality in Bangladesh.

In a formal statement issued Tuesday, the former minister described the budget as lacking innovation and rooted in the “same fascist values” of the previous regime.

“A budget reflects a government’s political philosophy. This one continues the pattern of authoritarian governance with mere adjustments in scope,” Quader stated.

He dismissed the revenue collection target as “unrealistic,” citing political instability and weak law enforcement that may discourage foreign aid and investment.

“Without stability, the budget deficit will widen, and essential expenditures may be difficult to cover,” he warned.

Quader also criticised the budget for failing to address the suffering of middle and low-income citizens, pointing to inflation, business stagnation, and rising joblessness.

“The 6.5% inflation target is simply not credible,” he said. “With soaring prices, we fear more citizens will go half-fed or unfed.”

He concluded by calling the budget “one of shrinking growth, lost opportunities, and expanding poverty,” and urged a shift in governance philosophy to protect public welfare.
