A gold merchant, Anwar Hossain (43), was shot and robbed of approximately 200 bhori of gold and Tk 1 lakh in cash by armed assailants in the Banasree area of Rampura, Dhaka.
The incident occurred around 10:30 PM on Sunday in front of house No. 20 on Road No. 7, Block D, Banasree. Nearby residents captured the shocking scene on mobile phones, and the footage quickly went viral on social media.
The video shows three men dismounting from a motorcycle and attempting to snatch Anwar’s bag. When he resisted, one of them shot him before fleeing with the valuables on their motorcycle.
Anwar’s relatives believe the criminals followed him from his jewelry shop, “Alankar Jewellers,” located on Road No. 5, Block C, Banasree. He was returning home on foot, as he did every night, when the assailants ambushed him near his house gate.
According to Rampura police inspector Moshiul Alam, Anwar was first taken to Farazi Hospital in Banasree and later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Bullet shells were recovered from the crime scene.
Liberty News’ city correspondent reports that Anwar suffered four bullet wounds and multiple stab injuries. He remains in critical condition at DMCH.
