Gold prices in Bangladesh have surged to an all-time high, with the cost of 22-carat gold reaching Tk 165,209 per bhori following a fresh hike announced by the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS).
The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) announced on Wednesday, April 16, that the price of gold has been increased by Tk 3,033 per bhori (11.664 grams), citing a rise in the price of acid gold in the local market. The new price will be effective from Thursday, April 17.
With this increase, the price of 22-carat gold now stands at Tk 165,209 per bhori—the highest ever recorded in the country’s history. Previously, the highest price was Tk 163,214, recorded on April 12.
According to the revised rates:
- 21-carat gold is priced at Tk 157,697 per bhori
- 18-carat at Tk 135,174
- Traditional gold at Tk 111,660
Just days earlier, on April 13, BAJUS had reduced the price of gold by Tk 1,038 per bhori to Tk 162,176. However, the latest surge has once again pushed the price past the previous record.
Liberty News’ economic correspondent states that the spike in local demand, coupled with rising global prices, continues to drive fluctuations in Bangladesh’s gold market.”
