Comilla jewellery heist : Businessman shot and one robber caught by locals

A robbery took place at a gold shop in Comilla’s Chauddagram, where the robbers exploded cocktails and held the shopkeeper at gunpoint. The robbers managed to take away around 25 bhori of gold ornaments. During the escape, a businessman named Mosharaf Hossain was shot while attempting to catch them.

The incident occurred on Saturday (February 8) at around 7:30 PM at Preeti Jewelers on the ground floor of the Miabazar Mosque Market in Chauddagram. Eyewitnesses reported that 5-7 robbers created panic by exploding cocktails during the Isha prayer. Afterward, they entered the shop and looted gold ornaments at gunpoint.

During the robbery, a businessman from Bismillah Telecom, Mosharaf Hossain, shouted “robbers! robbers!” Seeing this, the robbers fired shots at him. While trying to escape, the businessmen in the locality managed to catch one of the suspected robbers and handed him over to the police. The police seized a Noah microbus from the crime scene.

Preeti Jewelers’ owner, Rabindra Dutta, told Liberty News that his nephew, Palash Dutta, was in the shop when the robbers entered, held him hostage at gunpoint, and looted the gold ornaments. The incident has left the local business community terrified.
