Monjid Alam Shimul, Dinajpur: The interim government is working towards a farmer-friendly agricultural economy, according to Agriculture Secretary Dr. Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mia.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday (February 20) after inspecting a field under the Sustainable Development Project in Dinajpur, he emphasized the profitability of crops like squash and colored cauliflower for farmers.
“Squash and colored cauliflower are highly profitable crops. We inspected farmer Ekhlasur Rahman’s 40-decimal land, where he invested Tk 20,000 and is expected to earn around Tk 70,000. This means a profit of approximately Tk 50,000 from a single harvest. We want to see more farmers across the country achieve similar success,” the Agriculture Secretary said.
He further noted that demonstration activities are ongoing to maximize crop production in regions best suited for specific crops while maintaining soil health. He also assured that the current pricing crisis of agricultural products would soon be resolved.
“The government is working towards a farmer-friendly agricultural economy, and we have a long-term plan for the overall development of farmers and agriculture until 2050,” he added.
Liberty News’ local correspondent reports that the event was presided over by the Director General of the Department of Agricultural Extension, Saiful Alam. Other attendees included Additional Secretary of the Research Division of the Ministry of Agriculture, Abu Zubair Hossain Babul; Joint Secretary of the Extension Wing, Dipankar Biswas; Director of the On-Site Wing of the Department of Agricultural Extension, Obaidur Rahman Mondol; Dinajpur Regional Director, Nuruzzaman; and Regional Sustainable Development Project Director, Abu Reza Mohammad Asaduzzaman, among others.
