The interim government’s legal adviser, Asif Nazrul, stated that justice for the July movement martyr’s daughter, who committed suicide after being sexually assaulted, is underway, urging patience for a proper trial.
Interim government legal adviser Asif Nazrul has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of a July movement martyr’s daughter, who committed suicide after being raped. In a Facebook post early Monday around 1 AM, he emphasized that the government is firmly committed to ensuring exemplary punishment for the culprits.
Nazrul informed that two accused have already been arrested and DNA samples collected. He assured that police would submit the charge sheet shortly and the trial would commence, following revised legal provisions requiring a verdict within 90 days of trial initiation. He noted that if the DNA evidence is conclusive, the trial could end even sooner.
Regarding another case, Nazrul said the trial of Asiya’s rape and murder in Magura has already started after the charge sheet was filed. He remained optimistic that the verdict would be delivered within seven working days, as DNA samples and confessional statements are available.
Nazrul acknowledged the public’s impatience but stressed that proper trial procedures are crucial to ensure the verdict withstands appeals in higher courts. “Like you, I am also grief-stricken, but for true justice, we must endure a little longer,” he concluded.
