Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Thursday (27 June) expressed hope that citizens of all religions in Bangladesh would continue to celebrate their religious festivals without fear or hesitation. He assured that the current government remains fully committed to supporting the peaceful observance of all religious ceremonies.
“People across all faiths can celebrate their religious festivals with peace of mind,” he said while addressing the inauguration of the Dhamrai Rath Jatra festival as chief guest. “The government is committed to extending every possible cooperation to ensure the smooth observance of such festivals.”
The adviser praised the improvement in the country’s law and order situation and expressed confidence that further progress could be achieved through public cooperation.
The eight-day Rath Jatra festival, a prominent event for Bangladesh’s Hindu community, began with a colourful and festive procession organised by the Jashomadhav Temple Management Committee. The adviser extended warm greetings to the participants on behalf of the interim government and wished them a joyful and safe celebration.
