Following government assurance to meet their demands, the student platform “JUB Uikko” (Jagannath University Unity) has officially withdrawn its “Complete Shutdown” movement, declaring it a victory for the students.

Jagannath University (JUB) students called off their shutdown program late Friday night after University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof. Dr. S.M.A. Faiz announced that the government had accepted their key demands. The announcement came during a public hunger strike at Kakrail intersection, where Dr. Faiz broke the students’ fast by offering them water around 7:30 PM.

Speaking at a press briefing shortly after, JUB Teachers’ Association General Secretary Prof. Rois Uddin formally declared the suspension of the “Complete Shutdown” movement. “This is the result of our collective struggle. Thousands of students have sacrificed for this day. The government has recognized our just demands. This is a victory for the students—this is JUB’s victory,” he stated.

The movement, spearheaded by the “JUB Uikko” platform, saw participation from over 5,000 current and former students. The mass hunger strike was inaugurated earlier that day at 3:45 PM by Prof. Dr. Manzur Morshed Bhuiyan, spokesperson of the JUB Teachers’ Association.

UGC Chairman Dr. Faiz emphasized unity, stating, “UGC is working as one family. The government has accepted the students’ demands and will take prompt action for implementation.”

JUB Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rezaul Karim added that in response to student demands, the university’s budget will be increased, temporary dormitory facilities will be built to address housing shortages, and the second campus project will be expedited.

The official end of the movement was marked by a declaration from “JUB Uikko” that their historic struggle had achieved its goal through unity, courage, and unshakable determination.
