The government has given the green light to two separate proposals in principle for the construction of the ‘July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum’, aimed at commemorating the historic movement.

The approvals came at the 21st meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Economic Affairs, held on Tuesday at the Cabinet Division of the Bangladesh Secretariat.

Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed chaired the meeting, alongside two other meetings of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase and the Food Planning and Monitoring Committee.

Briefing reporters afterwards, Dr Salehuddin said that both the civil and electrical/mechanical works of the museum had been approved in principle, and construction work is already underway.

He also said the government will review all agreements signed with independent power producers (IPPs) under the previous regime following allegations of inconsistencies. A Supreme Court directive has been issued in this regard, he added.

To facilitate this, the government has approved a proposal to seek legal support and hold discussions as necessary.

The meeting also reviewed the country’s food storage situation, which Dr Salehuddin described as satisfactory. He said the stock of key food grains, including paddy, rice and wheat, remains stable.

Responding to a question, the adviser noted that price fluctuations in the market are expected and normal, but the government remains vigilant to keep the situation under control.
