The government has recommended the withdrawal of 6,202 politically motivated cases after a thorough review by a central committee formed by the Ministry of Home Affairs. These cases were selected from 6,295 proposals submitted by district-level committees for consideration.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday, a central committee reviewed the proposals submitted by field-level committees and determined that 6,202 cases were politically motivated and should be withdrawn.

The committee, chaired by the Advisor to the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, has held eight meetings to evaluate the recommendations. In these meetings, the committee assessed a total of 6,295 cases for possible withdrawal.

The move follows the government’s initiative to revoke cases filed over the past 16 years against political leaders and activists, which were allegedly registered with the intent of harassment. To facilitate this process, the interim government formed two committees:

  1. A Central Committee – Led by the Advisor to the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, with the Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs as a member, alongside five others.
  2. District-Level Committees – Headed by District Magistrates, with the Superintendent of Police and Public Prosecutors as members.

Liberty News’ court correspondent states that following district-level committees’ scrutiny, withdrawal proposals are forwarded to the central committee for final approval. The Solicitor’s Office of the Law and Justice Division is also involved in reviewing and processing these cases for withdrawal.
