The government is set to take swift action to ban the Awami League (AL) as a political party, as political parties reach a consensus on the matter, said Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan.
Bhuiyan stated that AL’s alleged undemocratic practices led to a nationwide demand for its ban. He highlighted that the government is considering legal avenues including executive orders, to implement the decision.
Liberty News’ political correspondent states he also revealed plans for a new political party led by the leaders of the July uprising, with an official launch expected by mid-February. The interim government remains focused on political reforms before the next election, ensuring a fair political landscape.
