Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor Shafiqul Alam stated that the government will not allow any activities from the opposition Awami League unless they apologize for past atrocities and corruption, and unless their guilty members face justice.

In a recent Facebook post, Shafiqul Alam, the Press Secretary of the Chief Advisor, responded to the opposition Awami League’s upcoming calls for strikes, blockades, and protests starting from February. He emphasized that the interim government would not permit any political activities from the party unless they address past issues of violence and corruption.

Alam questioned if it was acceptable to allow protests from a party responsible for the killings and violence during the July and August uprisings. He reiterated that the interim government had not restricted peaceful protests over the past months, including over 136 protests in Dhaka. However, he strongly opposed the protests planned by the Awami League, branding the party’s actions as fascist.

Liberty News’ political correspondent states citing international norms, Alam asserted that no country allows criminals and corrupt individuals to return to power, warning that any illegal protests would be met with strict legal measures.
