The government is determined to ensure swift justice in the brutal murder of Lal Chand alias Sohag, who was beaten to death in Old Dhaka’s Mitford area, said Law Adviser Asif Nazrul.
In a Facebook post on Friday morning, Asif stated that five individuals involved in the incident have already been arrested and that police have launched a high-priority investigation.
To ensure exemplary punishment, the case will be transferred to a Speedy Trial Tribunal. Proceedings will be conducted under Section 10 of the Speedy Trial Tribunal Act, 2002, aiming for the quickest possible justice.
Sohag was killed in broad daylight on Wednesday after reportedly refusing to pay extortion money. Video footage of the incident, which showed him being attacked with large chunks of concrete, quickly went viral and sparked outrage.
Protests have since erupted across several universities, including Dhaka University, BUET, Jagannath University, Jahangirnagar University, and Rajshahi University, with students demanding justice and strict punishment for the killers.
There are widespread allegations that members of the opposition-affiliated Jubo Dal were involved in the murder.
