The government is firmly committed to restoring law and order across the country before the upcoming national election, Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, said on Saturday.
Speaking at a views-exchange meeting with journalists and civil society members at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Rajshahi, Abul Kalam said, “Since the mass uprising, the government has been working tirelessly to bring the situation back to normal.”
Addressing recent concerns about law and order, he confirmed that four individuals have been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of a businessman in Old Dhaka’s Mitford area. “Police are investigating the motive behind the killing,” he added.
The deputy press secretary also stated that the Chief Adviser held a meeting with top officials of the Home Ministry and instructed them to ensure zero tolerance. “There will be no scope for leniency,” he asserted.
He further announced that all cases filed under the now-repealed Digital Security Act have been dropped. “Under the new Cyber Security Act, all sections are bailable except those related to hacking,” he clarified.
Senior Assistant Press Secretary Fayez Ahmed, Assistant Press Secretary Suchismita, and Rajshahi DC Afia Akter were also present at the meeting.
