Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Adviser to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, has termed the statement given by Jane Alam Apu regarding an extortion incident at the residence of a former MP in Dhaka’s Gulshan as “entirely politically motivated.”
He made the remark while speaking to journalists at his office in the Secretariat on Thursday (14 August). In addition to his role in the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Asif Mahmud also serves as an adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives.
“As far as Apu is concerned, I have no involvement with him in any way,” said Asif Mahmud. “I don’t think anyone has been able to provide evidence proving my involvement. Rather, the person (Jane Alam Apu) whose interview was taken—there has been a serious allegation that this interview was conducted after forcibly taking someone to the residence of a political leader. This is a very grave accusation, and since it has come from the family’s side, it appears quite reliable so far.”
