BNP Standing Committee Member Hafizuddin Ahmed today responded to the demolition of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s residence at Dhanmondi 32, stating that such actions could be aimed at “destroying democracy.”

He said that such actions might lead to chaos and hinder democratic progress in the future.

Speaking at a discussion at the National Press Club, Hafizuddin mentioned that his party would investigate whether a neighboring country had any involvement in the incident.

“We will try to find out if there is any interference from a neighboring country in this incident,” he said.

Hafizuddin further stated, “The incident that occurred yesterday is still ongoing. It has not ended. We do not know who was behind it. We do not know the government’s role in it. Therefore, we will wait a little longer,” he said.

“Hopefully, by the end of today, everything will be clear—who was behind this and who is responsible. Once we have the full information, BNP will share its stance with the media. It would not be right to comment without complete information,” he added.

He also emphasized the need for a national election within this year and called on the interim government to take action against what he described as conspiracies against democracy.

“I urge the interim government to take immediate steps against all forms of chaos and conspiracies against democracy. Holding a national election as soon as possible is necessary to address these issues,” he said.

He also criticized several advisers of the interim government, stating, “Several advisers in this government were previously part of Sheikh Hasina’s team. Over the past 15 years, they haven’t even posted a status on Facebook.”
