After much anticipation, Hamza Dewan Chowdhury, the star footballer from Sheffield United, has arrived in Bangladesh to represent the national football team.
Hamza Dewan Chowdhury, the British-born footballer of Bangladeshi descent, has finally arrived in Bangladesh to join the national football team. He landed at Sylhet Osmani International Airport at approximately 11:40 AM local time on a flight from England. The 27-year-old midfielder, who plays for Sheffield United, is set to make his debut for Bangladesh in the upcoming Asian Cup qualifier against India on March 25.
Hamza’s mother is Bangladeshi, and his father is Grenadian. Last August, he received his Bangladeshi passport, and by December, he was granted clearance to play for the national team. Since then, fans have eagerly awaited his debut, and now, with his arrival in Dhaka, that wait is nearly over.
Having started his professional career with Leicester City in 2015, Hamza joined Sheffield United on loan earlier this year, with rumors suggesting a permanent contract could be in the works. He has also represented England at various youth levels, adding valuable experience to the national squad.
Liberty News’ sports correspondent states that once he steps onto the field for Bangladesh, Hamza will become the first-ever player from the English Premier League to play in South Asian football, marking a historic milestone.
