Hard to predict where or when we might be detained : Shahidul Alam

Veteran photographer and human rights activist Shahidul Alam has said that although their vessel was scheduled to reach Gaza on Sunday, the journey will be further delayed. He noted that it is difficult to predict in advance where or when they might be intercepted.

In a post on his verified Facebook page at around 11:00 am (Bangladesh time on Sunday), Drik’s Managing Director Shahidul Alam shared the update. He is currently aboard the Conscience, a ship heading toward Gaza. You can see the Conscience’s location on Live Tracker.

Calm seas and glorious sunshine. I had slept on the open deck last night. We would normally have reached Gaza today but as we slowed down to stay closer to the smaller boats it will now take longer. But the danger zone is well before that and it is difficult to predict where or when we might be intercepted,” Shahidul Alam wrote.

The Conscience is part of the international flotilla organized by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) and Thousand Madelines to Gaza (TMTG). The FFC is among the global alliances behind the “Global Sumud Flotilla,” an initiative aimed at breaking Israel’s blockade and reaching Gaza with aid. However, the current flotilla is not carrying food supplies.
