A case has been filed against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, and 220 others over an alleged attempted murder during the anti-discrimination student protests in Mohammadpur, Dhaka.
The case was lodged by 38-year-old Sohel Rana at Mohammadpur Police Station on Wednesday and officially received by the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Friday. Magistrate Sefat Ullah has ordered a report on the matter by 20 July.
According to court prosecution officer SI Mizanur Rahman, the list of accused includes several former cabinet members and prominent public figures such as Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan, Anisul Huq, Salman F Rahman, Hasanul Haq Inu, Rashed Khan Menon, Dr. Dipu Moni, singer and ex-MP Momtaz Begum, actress Shomi Kaiser, and former DMP DB chief Harun-or-Rashid.
The complaint alleges that on 5 August 2023, during a protest in front of Moyur Villa in Mohammadpur, Sohel Rana was shot and injured when police and ruling party activists allegedly opened fire under direct orders from the then-government.
Sohel claimed the delay in filing the case was due to his extended hospitalisation following the incident.
