Hasnat Abdullah, the chief organizer of the National Citizens’ Party (South), has issued a stern warning to Shahbagh activists, urging them not to repeat the events of 2013 in 2025.
Hasnat Abdullah, a prominent leader of the National Citizens’ Party, posted a warning on his verified Facebook account late on Tuesday night, urging the Shahbagh activists to refrain from attempting to bring back the events of 2013. He posted, “Do not try to bring back 2013 in 2025. Be cautious!”
In a follow-up post at 4:24 AM, Abdullah elaborated on his stance, claiming that Shahbagh was not created overnight, nor by a single individual. He accused the so-called intellectuals, bureaucrats, cultural workers, foreign agents, politicians, and even sports figures of supporting the establishment of Shahbagh.
Abdullah further criticized Shahbagh for allegedly stripping away the people’s freedom of speech and basic human rights, including the right to live freely. He accused it of legitimizing extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, murders, and judicial killings.
He continued to claim that the same forces behind Shahbagh indirectly contributed to the establishment of fascism in Bangladesh over the past 15 years, enabling Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government to maintain power.
As a former coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement, Abdullah expressed his commitment to ensuring justice for the crimes, disappearances, and oppression that have taken place in the last 15 years. He called for the unity of all anti-fascist forces, stating that only through collective effort could justice and fairness be established in the country.
Abdullah concluded by emphasizing the importance of preserving the spirit of the martyrs of July and reaffirmed his determination to ensure justice for all the wrongdoings committed during the previous governance.
