At a massive rally in Dhaka, NCP leader Hasnat Abdullah urged Hefazat-e-Islam to publicly release the list of those killed in the 2013 Shapla Square crackdown, while vowing to continue the movement until former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is tried and the ruling Awami League is banned.

Hasnat Abdullah, chief organizer (Southern Region) of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), made a fiery call during Hefazat-e-Islam’s grand rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on Saturday morning, demanding the public disclosure of the names of those killed in the 2013 Shapla Square operation.

Addressing thousands gathered under Hefazat’s four-point demand—including the abolition of the proposed Women’s Reform Commission and justice for mass killings during the Awami regime—Hasnat accused the ruling party of being a “terrorist organization” rather than a political entity.

“Awami League has died in Bangladesh; its funeral was held in Delhi,” said Hasnat. “We will never allow the Awami League to return to power. Banning them is the greatest reform the country needs.”

He directly challenged Hefazat leaders to reveal the names of those allegedly martyred in the 2013 incident. “Present the list of martyrs before the nation,” he demanded. “We will not stop until Hasina is brought to justice.”

Hasnat also criticized Nobel Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus, accusing him of ignoring public sentiment and warning him against supporting the Awami League. “Don’t forget—we brought you to power,” he claimed.

Referring to the protest on August 5 as a symbolic rejection of the ruling party, Hasnat declared, “The people have shown the red card. There will be no political rehabilitation of Awami League on this land.”

He further condemned the 2013 Baitul Mukarram incident, where religious individuals were allegedly assaulted. “A party that dragged our bearded, cap-wearing brothers into the streets cannot be allowed to return,” he stated.

On the proposed Women’s Reform Commission, Hasnat urged Yunus and policymakers to listen to religious scholars. “Address the legitimate concerns of Islamic scholars. Implement only those reforms that truly uphold women’s rights and dignity,” he concluded.
