Hasnat warns of public resistance if reforms obstructed

Chief Organizer for the southern region of Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP), Hasnat Abdullah, has issued a stern warning that any obstruction to reforms from within the Secretariat will be met with resistance from the public.

Speaking to reporters at Biplob Udyan in Chattogram’s Soloshahar area on Monday, Hasnat stated, “If certain factions inside the Secretariat continue to sabotage reforms and conspire against the government post-August 5, we will counter them with the people.”

He added that a new wave of political engagement is emerging across the country, particularly among the youth. “There is growing public interest in new political forces. The youth are giving people hope again.”

Accusing elements within the Secretariat of deliberate sabotage, he claimed, “There is a conspiracy ongoing in Dhaka even as I speak here today. The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has become a breeding ground of corruption.”

Hasnat also alleged that reform talks — including those concerning judicial reforms and an electoral roadmap — are being undermined by internal resistance. “Whenever we push for justice and reform, conspiracies emerge. We urge those inside the Secretariat not to create chaos.”

He warned bureaucrats allegedly still loyal to the previous regime: “Those in the Secretariat still trying to obstruct the new government — we will find your replacements from among the people. If you think the Hasina regime will return, you are mistaken.”

Senior NCP leaders including Dr. Tasnim Zara, the party’s senior joint member secretary, and district-level representatives were present. On Sunday, the NCP conducted public meetings across nine sub-districts in southern Chattogram. On Monday, it held additional rallies in Rangunia, Raozan, Hathazari, Fatikchhari, Mirsarai, and Sitakunda in Chattogram North.
