HC : Prior permission mandatory for tree cutting

The High Court (HC) on Tuesday ruled that prior permission must be taken from the authorities concerned before cutting down trees except those owned by individuals at villages.

The HC bench of Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Mubina Asaf delivered the verdict after holding hearing on a writ petition.

Liberty News’ court correspondent reports that the Ministry of Environment to form a committee comprising environmentalists, environmental scientists, and professors of the Environmental Sciences departments of Dhaka and Jahangirnagar universities within seven days for giving permission to cut down trees. it also asked the Ministry of Public Administration to issue circulars in seven days for formation of committees at district and upazila levels.
