Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh has strongly condemned the sexual assault of an eight-year-old child at her elder sister’s house, calling it an act of brutality worse than the barbarism of the pre-Islamic era.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Hefazat Amir Allama Muhibbullah Babunagari and Secretary General Maulana Sajedur Rahman urged the interim government to ensure public punishment for rapists.

They emphasized that Islam mandates public punishment for rapists so that others witness the consequences and refrain from committing such crimes out of fear.

Additionally, the Hefazat leaders demanded the same public punishment for former RAB officer Alep Uddin, who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman on the night of Shab-e-Qadr after forcing her to break her fast by threatening her imprisoned husband. The victim later lost her mental stability and died.

Liberty News’ political correspondent states that Hefazat blamed a history of impunity under previous regimes for the ongoing rise in sexual violence and called on the interim government to ensure swift and exemplary punishment for rapists.
