Anwarul Haque Helal has resigned from his position as the General Secretary of the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF), just months after renewing his contract earlier this year.

Helal officially submitted his resignation letter on February 28, which will take effect on April 1. The resignation was confirmed by sources from both the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) and SAFF.

In a statement to the media, Helal explained his decision, saying, “Yes, I have stepped down from my position as the General Secretary of SAFF. I mentioned personal reasons in my resignation letter. I do not wish to comment further on the matter at this time.”

Helal, who took over as the General Secretary of SAFF in 2015, had renewed his contract earlier this year. However, just two months later, he decided to resign from the post.

Liberty News’ sports correspondent states that SAFF President Kazi Salahuddin remarked, “Helal has resigned, but the reasons behind his resignation are best known to him. It would be better to ask him directly about it.”
