Ashraful Alom, widely known as Hero Alom, a controversial content creator, reportedly attempted suicide by overdosing on sleeping pills.
The incident occurred around 3:30am on Thursday, at a friend’s house in Bhandarbari village, Dhunat upazila of Bogura. He had travelled there from Dhaka. Hero Alom fell seriously ill after taking the pills.
On Friday, around 12pm, his friend admitted him to Dhunat Upazila Health Complex. Doctors have confirmed that Alom is now out of danger.
According to local sources, Hero Alom arrived at the house of his friend, playwright Zahid Hasan Sagor, near the banks of the Jamuna River in Bhandarbari village late Thursday night. The two reportedly had a long discussion about Riya Moni, a person Alom is said to have strong emotional ties with.
After their conversation, they retired to separate beds. The following morning, at around 11am, Sagor was unable to wake Alom and noticed sleeping pills near his pillow. He immediately took him to the health complex for treatment.
Speaking to the media, Zahid Hasan Sagor said, “Hero Alom, who is a long-time close friend of mine, came to my house seeking some peace and quiet. He has been mentally distressed over Riya Moni for some time now. Wherever he goes, people harass him with questions. I believe it was this emotional despair that led him to take sleeping pills in a suicide attempt.”
Dr Moniruzzaman of the Dhunat Health Complex stated, “Hero Alom was brought in after taking a large quantity of sleeping medication. We gave him initial treatment and referred him to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura. However, his family or companions are reluctant to move him there.”
The doctor confirmed that Hero Alom is no longer in critical condition.
