A 19-year-old housewife was allegedly murdered by her husband in Lalmonirhat’s Patgram upazila on Eid-ul-Azha morning following a family dispute, police and locals said.
The victim, Amy Begum, was found dead with her throat slit at her in-laws’ home in Ward-6 of Kuchlibari Union on Saturday morning. She was the daughter of Israk Hossain, a resident of the same union.
According to police and local sources, the couple had been facing ongoing marital conflicts. On Eid morning, an altercation allegedly escalated, prompting her husband Hasibul to attack her with a sharp weapon before fleeing the scene.
Family members discovered the body and immediately informed Patgram Police Station. Police recovered the body, prepared an inquest report, and launched an investigation.
“We suspect the murder was the result of a long-standing family dispute,” said Patgram Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mizanur Rahman. “We are actively working to arrest the accused. One person has been detained for questioning.”
As of Saturday evening, the primary suspect, Hasibul, remained at large. Police say efforts are underway to track and apprehend him.
